PDI launches new investigative brigade in Puerto Williams
The Chilean Investigative Police (PDI) has launched the Puerto Williams Integral Brigade to strengthen operational capabilities in the Chilean Antarctic Province. This new unit evolves from the previous Puerto Williams Border Advance and expands the institution's local functions.
While maintaining responsibilities related to immigration and international policing, the brigade now incorporates criminal investigation and analysis. The unit will work in coordination with the Public Ministry, the Local Prosecutor's Office of Cape Horn and Chilean Antarctica, and other security agencies. Authorities noted that the police presence in the area has doubled, and the new unit has already assisted in locating fugitives in the southern channels.
The implementation of the brigade coincides with the construction of a new police headquarters at the intersection of Piloto Pardo and Arturo Prat streets. This facility is designed to provide expanded space for investigative operations and community service.
