PDI warns of risks regarding non-consensual intimate image sharing
The Investigations Police of Chile (PDI) has issued warnings regarding the risks associated with the non-consensual dissemination of intimate images. Through the BRISEX Talca unit, authorities emphasized that providing consent to capture or send an intimate image does not grant permission to share it with third parties via social media or messaging platforms.
Key risks identified include sextortion, where perpetrators use intimate content to demand money or further material, and grooming, where adults use false profiles to manipulate minors. Authorities also highlighted the emerging threat of artificial intelligence, which allows for the creation of fake intimate content using existing internet images. The PDI advises victims not to negotiate with aggressors and to preserve all digital evidence, such as screenshots and phone numbers, for legal reporting.
