PDIP faction to address Sumatra disaster recovery complaints
The PDIP faction of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has pledged to follow up on complaints from the Indonesian Forum for Environment (WALHI) regarding post-disaster recovery in Sumatra. During a meeting in Jakarta, WALHI and local residents raised concerns about the slow pace of rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
While the Ministry of Finance has stated that funds for these processes are available, officials noted that data verification remains a primary obstacle. Residents from Aceh have specifically highlighted ongoing ecological issues, noting that mining permits and palm oil plantation activities continue in areas affected by environmental disasters. They have called for an acceleration of reconstruction and an evaluation of companies linked to ecological damage in the region.
