Kosovo opposition demands continuation of Assembly constitutive session

Opposition parties in Kosovo, led by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Alliance, are demanding the immediate continuation of the Assembly's constitutive session. The parties have submitted formal requests to the session chair, Avni Dehari, to convene the meeting, citing constitutional obligations and parliamentary rules.

Opposition leaders, including Arian Tahiri and Besnik Tahiri, have accused Albin Kurti and the Vetëvendosje movement of obstructing the functionalization of the Assembly and holding democratic institutions hostage. They claim the delay violates constitutional deadlines and court rulings. The opposition has called for a session to be held at 11:00 AM to restore institutional normalcy.

In response to the tensions, Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has urged the opposition not to target the professional staff of the Assembly or use them as targets for political clashes. Meanwhile, Albin Kurti has stated that the selection of the Assembly President should be a consensus-based decision to avoid new elections, expressing a willingness to engage in discussions to find a candidate with broad support.
