PDP faces internal disputes and defections across Nigeria

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing various internal challenges and shifts across Nigeria as political maneuvering for the 2027 elections intensifies.

In Oyo State, Hazeem Gbolarumi, the PDP governorship candidate, has asserted the party's unity, dismissing rumors of factionalism between supporters of Nyesom Wike and Seyi Makinde. Gbolarumi criticized the current administration's economic policies and youth empowerment efforts while maintaining that the party remains structurally strong.

In Ekiti State, a dispute has emerged in Ado-Ekiti between PDP local government leaders and the campaign team of governorship candidate Wole Oluyede. The conflict involves allegations of financial impropriety regarding campaign funds, with party leaders challenging Oluyede to publicly account for total expenditures.

In Ogun State, the political landscape is shifting as former PDP Chairman Dr. Sikirullahi Ogundele and several other state executives have formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ogundele described the PDP as a “burning house,” suggesting that the movement of prominent politicians indicates a deepening crisis within the party.
