PDP strategizes for 2027 elections with candidate swaps and resurgence claims

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is implementing strategic shifts in preparation for Nigeria's 2027 general elections. In Jigawa State, the party has swapped several National Assembly candidates to strengthen its electoral position. This includes replacing Aminu Wada Abubakar with former Inspector-General of Police Suleiman Abba as the candidate for the Jigawa Central Senatorial District, while moving Abubakar to contest the Dutse/Kiyawa Federal Constituency.

Former PDP National Chairman Kawu Baraje expressed optimism regarding the party's resurgence, predicting that the PDP will reclaim power in states currently controlled by the All Progressives Congress (APC), such as Bauchi and Jigawa. Baraje characterized the current APC governors as “tenants” in government houses, suggesting that the ruling party has lost public confidence and that a political “revolution” is underway to return the PDP to power.
