PDT to discuss party federation or merger following election losses
The Democratic Labour Party (PDT) has convened a national convention for October 27 to discuss its future organizational structure. The meeting, scheduled two days after the presidential second round, will address the possibility of forming a political federation, a merger, or an incorporation with other parties.
The move follows the party's failure to meet the electoral threshold (cláusula de barreira) in the recent elections. This failure restricts the party's access to the electoral fund and free airtime for political advertising on radio and television.
National President Carlos Lupi has signaled that several parties are under consideration for potential alliances, including the PSB, PSOL, Rede Sustentabilidade, PSDB, PRD, and Solidariedade. The hybrid convention, held at the Leonel Brizola Foundation in Rio de Janeiro, will allow members of the directories, elected parliamentarians, and the political council to vote on these strategic shifts.
