PDVSA and Shell inspect Monagas gas complex in Venezuela

Petroleum state company PDVSA and British oil major Shell jointly inspected the Muscar gas‑operating complex in the eastern state of Monagas, Venezuela. The visit, led by PDVSA president Héctor Obregón and Shell’s head of Exploration and Production Peter Costino, focused on assessing plans to expand production capacity, reinforce gas‑handling infrastructure and improve operational reliability. The teams confirmed that the complex sustains oil and associated natural‑gas output from the Carito and Pirital fields, which feed the national oil industry and a portion of the electric grid.

The inspection follows recent reforms to Venezuela’s Hydrocarbon Law that open the sector to private and foreign investment, and agreements signed earlier by interim president Delcy Rodríguez with Shell, including a technical‑financial partnership to develop PDVSA divisions. An earlier accord between Venezuela’s Vepica and Shell on field development was also referenced.
