Peace advocacy groups in Italy hold meetings on rearmament and war economy

Various peace advocacy organizations in Italy, including Rete Pace and groups associated with the Italian Episcopal Conference, are organizing meetings to discuss the impact of rearmament, the war economy, and arms trafficking.

In Cuneo, an event titled “Fare la pace con il lavoro. Cosa succede in Piemonte?” will address the relationship between labor and peace, specifically focusing on the conversion of the arms industry in the Piedmont region. This meeting serves as a precursor to the 59th National March for Peace scheduled for December 31, 2026.

In Ferrara, Rete Pace is hosting discussions regarding European and Italian rearmament plans. One session will feature investigations into arms trafficking from Italy to the Middle East, specifically involving the port of Ravenna. The group expressed concerns over recent European Parliament decisions regarding the “Defence readiness omnibus” package, which they argue eases military project authorizations and arms transfers between EU member states.
