Peace Council pledges Gaza disarmament to ensure Israeli security

On the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attacks, the Peace Council regarding Gaza issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to achieving security and peace in the region. The Council emphasized that “real and lasting security for Israel” must serve as the foundation for any peace process.

The Council noted that the UN Security Council has tasked it with ensuring that Gaza does not pose a threat to Israel again and with breaking the “cycle of fear and bloodshed” that has persisted for decades. To achieve a lasting peace, the Council stated it is working toward the disarmament and de-radicalization of Gaza through practical solutions.

In its commemoration of the October 7 events, the Council described the initial attack as a “brutal massacre” that resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and the taking of 251 hostages. While mourning the victims, the Council also expressed regret for the “immense loss of life and profound suffering” experienced by both Israelis and Palestinians during the subsequent war.
