Peace demonstrations held in Aviano and Murgia regions of Italy

Protestors held demonstrations across Italy to advocate for disarmament, diplomacy, and increased social spending. In Aviano, over 1,000 participants joined a nonviolent march from Piazza Duomo toward the boundaries of the Aviano Air Base, a key NATO and US military hub. The demonstrators expressed opposition to military rearmament, rising defense expenditures, and the presence of nuclear weapons on Italian soil, calling instead for investments in welfare, the environment, and social justice.

In the Murgia region, a march was organized from Gravina to Altamura to promote peace and territorial defense. The event draws historical parallels to the 1963 protests against Jupiter nuclear missiles in the Puglia and Basilicata regions. Organizers emphasized that peace is linked to social justice, education, and healthcare, urging a shift in focus from military spending to the needs of future generations.
