Peacebuilders recognized in Italy through local commemorations and awards

In Cellino Attanasio, local administration and school officials held a ceremony to commemorate the fallen of all wars. Mayor Giuseppe Del Papa and school director Simona Piantieri joined students and representatives from the Alpini and Carabinieri to lay a wreath at the local war memorial. During the event, local priests Don Jorge and Don Battista expressed strong condemnation of violence and war.

In Pinerolo, Bishop Derio Olivero and Councilor Bruna Destefanis were honored with the “peacebuilders” award. The recognition, inspired by the “Kick War Away European Muslims League” initiative, celebrates their commitment to interreligious dialogue and social inclusion. Bishop Derio was recognized for his dedication to fostering understanding between different faiths, while Destefanis was honored for using sports and community events to promote fraternity and break down prejudices.
