PeaceGold and SigraFi partner to export traceable gold from DRC
PeaceGold, a social enterprise co-founded by British campaigner Greg Valerio MBE and the Congolese organization Centre Résolution Conflits, has signed a long-term supply and financing agreement with London-based SigraFi.
The agreement aims to establish a fair and legal export channel for fully traceable artisanal gold from 11 mining cooperatives in the Ituri Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This partnership is expected to facilitate payments to nearly 25,000 workers within the supply chain.
By utilizing SigraFi’s model of multi-year contracts, pre-financing, and compliance support, the initiative seeks to move gold from informal channels into institutional markets. The process follows ICGLR certification and OECD due diligence guidelines for conflict-affected regions. Unlike traditional fair trade models, PeaceGold operates as a social enterprise where miners receive a portion of profits to be reinvested in community projects and mercury-free refining machinery.
