Peachland to host water stewardship symposium on watershed protection
The Interior Watershed Task Force and the Peachland Watershed Protection Alliance have announced a water stewardship symposium to be held on October 3 at the Peachland 50+ Centre. The event aims to address critical threats to regional water sources, including prolonged drought, wildfires, shoreline flooding, urban development, AI data centers, and clear-cutting.
Organizers stated that the 2026 summer wildfires represent the beginning of a catastrophe for water security. The symposium will feature an expert panel including Summerland Mayor Doug Holmes, former solicitor general Mike Morris, Syilx knowledge keeper Chris Eneas, and University of British Columbia hydrologist Dr. Younes Alila.
