Crystal Lake prequel series to premiere on Peacock

The upcoming horror prequel series ‘Crystal Lake’, produced by Peacock and A24, is set to premiere on October 15. The eight-episode series serves as an origin story for the ‘Friday the 13th’ franchise, focusing on the psychological journey and descent of Pamela Voorhees, the mother of Jason Voorhees.

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane stated at New York Comic Con that the series will explore the period between Jason’s drowning and the events of the original 1980 film. Kane noted that the show aims to be “a lot more brutal” than the original movies, featuring “really creative kills” while maintaining a 1970s thriller atmosphere.

Star Linda Cardellini, who portrays Pamela Voorhees, described the character as having a “switch” that, when flipped, leads to a total loss of control. While the series is a prequel and does not strictly require viewers to have seen the previous twelve films, it is designed to provide deeper context for the character's transformation into the franchise's original killer.
