Peacock cancels crime drama ‘M. I. A.’ after one season

Peacock has canceled the Miami-set crime drama series ‘M. I. A.’ after just one season. Created by Bill Dubuque, known for ‘Ozark,’ the series premiered on May 7 with nine hour-long episodes.

Despite a strong initial rollout that briefly made it the top show on Peacock and a special airing on NBC on May 14, the series will not return for a second season. The production was noted for its authenticity, as it was filmed on location in Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys rather than using studio stand-ins.

The show follows Etta Tiger Jonze, played by Shannon Gisela, as she navigates the criminal underworld following a threat to her family’s drug-running operation. The ensemble cast included Cary Elwes, Danay Garcia, and Marta Milans. No official reason for the cancellation has been provided.
