Peñafiel wooden footbridge collapses over Duratón River, no injuries
A wooden pedestrian footbridge in the Pedro Burgueño park over the Duratón River in Peñafiel, Valladolid, gave way after a structural beam shifted. The collapse occurred after the municipal council had already closed the bridge as a precaution, so no pedestrians were on it and there were no injuries.
Mayor Roberto Díez González said the construction company attempted to shore up the structure early in the morning, but the bridge ultimately fell. The municipality plans to dismantle the damaged remains on Monday and later install a new footbridge. The bridge, originally built by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Duero as part of the Senda del Duero improvements, has previously required repairs in 2018 due to deformation of its wooden arches.
