Pear Lake fire reaches 146,880 hectares in British Columbia

The Pear Lake fire, part of the Big Bar complex, has grown to 146,880 hectares. While the fire remains active, officials expect activity to be less intense over the next two days due to increased humidity and cooler temperatures.

Regional authorities have begun adjusting emergency measures. The Cariboo Regional District rescinded several evacuation alerts and downgraded the evacuation order for North Green Lake to an alert. Similarly, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District downgraded orders for South Green Lake and 70 Mile House to alerts. However, the Village of Clinton remains under an evacuation order.

The BC Wildfire Service has deployed 471 personnel, 116 pieces of heavy equipment, 225 structural protection units, and 22 helicopters to the Big Bar complex. While thunderstorms may bring isolated rain, officials warn that the drought-stricken ground is so dry that significant, consecutive rainfall is required to fully extinguish the heat.
