BC's Pear Lake fire engages over 500 firefighters as blaze burns 115,250 hectares FAST-MOVING

The Pear Lake wildfire in British Columbia continues to burn roughly 115,250 hectares. The BC Wildfire Service has deployed 279 firefighting personnel, 24 helicopters, 86 pieces of heavy equipment and 214 structural protection units, and the total number of structural and wildland firefighters on the incident now exceeds 500. Incoming incident commander Mark Healey said protecting life and property remains the top priority, while outgoing commander Bryce Moreira provided a video update on August 3.

Strong gusty winds from a cold front intensified the fire two days earlier, but improved visibility later allowed air tankers and heavy equipment to be used more effectively. Evacuation alerts and orders remain in place for the Village of Clinton, the Chasm area along Highway 24, 70 Mile House and both sides of Green Lake as the fire threatens additional communities.
