Peardonville Road crossing construction begins in Abbotsford

Construction has commenced on the new Peardonville Road crossing of Highway 1 in Abbotsford, British Columbia. This $119.4 million project is the final phase of the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program.

The project involves replacing the existing two-lane overpass with a new four-lane structure. Additionally, approximately 1.6 kilometres of Highway 1 will be widened to include high-occupancy vehicle (HOV), electric vehicle (EV), and bus-on-shoulder lanes. The new crossing will also feature protected bike lanes and sidewalks to improve community connectivity.

Contracted to the Emil Anderson Group, the work is expected to continue through 2031. Transportation and Transit Minister Mike Farnworth and Abbotsford Mayor Ross Siemens noted that the improvements are essential to support the region's growing population and improve travel reliability.
