Pearl Abyss CEO defends Crimson Desert reviews and exploration design
Lybee Park, CEO of Pearl Abyss Europe, has addressed the critical reception of the open-world action-adventure game Crimson Desert. Defending the title's Metacritic score of approximately 77, Park suggested that the game's unique charm is found in its hidden details and expansive exploration rather than its central storyline.
Park noted that many reviewers may have missed these elements due to tight deadlines, which often force critics to focus primarily on the main quest. This approach can prevent players from discovering the emergent systems and environmental details spread across the continent of Pywel, including its forests, deserts, and mountains.
Additionally, discussions have highlighted that the versions provided to the press for review lacked the final performance adjustments and corrections included in the official launch day patch. While critics evaluated an earlier build, the commercial release features updated systems and optimizations.
