Peñarol candidate targets Arrascaeta for transfer from Flamengo

Pablo Schiavi, a candidate for the presidency of the Uruguayan club Peñarol, has declared his intention to sign Flamengo midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta. In an interview with Uruguay's Canal 10, Schiavi described the pursuit of the 32-year-old as a campaign obsession, aiming to bring the player back to Uruguay to conclude his career.

Schiavi noted that the club is in contact with Arrascaeta's agent, Daniel Fonseca, emphasizing that discussions are being held with the representative to avoid placing direct pressure on the player. Beyond Arrascaeta, Schiavi identified Nicolás De la Cruz of Flamengo and Pablo Merentiel of Boca Juniors as key targets, asserting that these high-profile signings would be financially self-sustaining.

Arrascaeta is currently recovering from surgery performed on October 1 following an injury sustained while playing for the Uruguayan national team. He is expected to return to action in November.
