Peasant organizations blockade roads in Santa Cruz, Bolivia
Peasant organizations in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, have initiated an indefinite blockade of roads in the Manuel María Caballero province. The protests, led by the Central Sindical Única de Trabajadores Campesinos de la Provincia Manuel María Caballero (CSUTCPMMC), began on September 8, 2026, at key points including La Palizada and the El Quilco bridge in the Comarapa municipality.
The demonstrators are demanding the elimination of the Siscargio system, which they claim complicates the purchase of fuel and negatively impacts agricultural production. Leaders noted that many individuals, including elderly citizens, have faced difficulties registering for or acquiring fuel since the system's implementation. The blockades interrupt vital transit routes connecting Santa Cruz, Sucre, and Cochabamba, affecting both passengers and transport companies.
