Pebble Beach hosts Pure Insurance Championship amid course changes

The PGA TOUR Champions Pure Insurance Championship concluded at Pebble Beach Golf Links, where the winner secured his sixth victory of the season using a Graphite Design Tour AD IZ-6 X-Stiff wood shaft in a Titleist TSR driver. The champion finished at 14-under-par with rounds of 69, 68, and 65, winning by two strokes.

Ahead of the tournament, discussions arose regarding changes to the Pebble Beach layout. A Monterey cypress tree on the par-4 16th hole was removed, a move that prompted concerns from professional golfer Ernie Els regarding the course's integrity and how modern ball distance might affect the layout. Pebble Beach Resorts clarified that the tree was removed following an arborist's recommendation because it was severely diseased and infested, and the removal was necessary to prevent the spread of disease to other trees. Other players, including Zach Johnson, expressed that the change might not be significant.
