Poland energy costs and heating support discussions
As the heating season approaches, discussions in Poland are intensifying regarding energy costs and available financial support for households. While the 3,000 PLN coal allowance introduced during the 2022 energy crisis is not guaranteed for the 2026/2027 period, residents facing high costs for coal, wood, or pellets may seek assistance through local social welfare centers (MOPS) via targeted grants.
In response to rising pellet prices, the Polish Pellet Council has proposed a ‘Pellet Plus’ initiative to the Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Climate and Environment. This proposal suggests a 15% tax relief or deduction for households using wood pellets, which could provide savings of up to 1,200 PLN for those spending 8,000 PLN annually.
Additionally, energy consumption patterns are under scrutiny. Research indicates that electric ovens are significant energy consumers, potentially using as much electricity annually as dozens of high-efficiency refrigerators due to the high power required to maintain temperatures.
