Pedalar Sem Idade Portugal offers tricycle rides for seniors
The association Pedalar Sem Idade Portugal, a representative of the international Cycling Without Age movement, provides free tricycle rides for elderly individuals and those with reduced mobility. Using specialized vehicles called trishaws, trained volunteers pedal passengers in a front-facing seat designed to enhance the experience of seeing the surroundings.
The trishaws are equipped with electric assistance, seatbelts, and canopies for weather protection. The initiative aims to support mental health by fostering social connections and conversation through these outings.
Currently, the association operates in twelve Portuguese municipalities, including Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais, Almada, Mafra, Vila Franca de Xira, Torres Vedras, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Guimarães, Castro Verde, and Vila Real de Santo António.
