Pedernales province undergoes tourism development in Dominican Republic
Located in the extreme southwest of the Dominican Republic on the border with Haiti, the province of Pedernales is undergoing a significant economic transformation. Historically driven by agriculture, fishing, and mining, the region is now seeing increased prominence due to the Cabo Rojo tourism development project.
The province features diverse natural landscapes, including Bahía de las Águilas, Jaragua National Park, Oviedo Lagoon, and Hoyo de Pelempito. While the new tourism initiatives aim to boost investment and job creation, they have also raised questions regarding the protection of natural resources and the equitable distribution of benefits to the local population.
