Pedestrian incidents in New Jersey and Canada result in death and serious injury

In Jackson Township, New Jersey, a nine-month-old baby died after being struck by a vehicle in a grocery store parking lot. Officials report that Maria CobonGuzman, 20, was driving a Ford Fusion without a valid driver's license when she hit a mother pushing a stroller containing two children. The mother and a five-year-old girl were hospitalized in stable condition, but the infant was pronounced dead at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. CobonGuzman has been charged with manslaughter, assault by auto, and operating a vehicle without a license. Ariadna Lazaro-Flores, 22, was also charged with knowingly engaging in conduct that created a substantial risk of death after allegedly allowing the unlicensed driver to operate the vehicle.

In a separate incident in Mississauga, Canada, a woman sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being dragged by a vehicle in a plaza parking lot. Peel police stated the incident followed a verbal dispute between two drivers. The woman, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was reportedly not intentionally struck but was dragged a short distance as the vehicle moved. The driver left the scene but contacted police immediately. The investigation into the Mississauga incident is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.
