Pediatric experts provide guidance on childhood emergencies and newborn care

Medical specialists provide guidance for parents on managing common childhood emergencies and newborn care. Dr. Delia Karina Maya Bautista from Centro Médico ABC emphasizes the importance of remaining calm during home accidents involving infants and preschoolers.

Common household emergencies include sudden high fever, falls, head injuries, choking, and burns. For fever, experts recommend light clothing, constant hydration, and lukewarm baths while avoiding cold water or alcohol. In cases of head trauma without loss of consciousness or vomiting, cold compresses can reduce swelling. For choking, if a child is coughing forcefully, they should be allowed to continue coughing.

Regarding newborn care, pediatricians advise first-time parents to maintain composure and a positive attitude. On the topic of nutrition, the Asociación Española de Pediatría (AEP) notes that many breastfeeding difficulties stem from improper technique. A proper latch involves the baby facing the mother with the mouth wide open, ensuring the chin touches the breast and a large portion of the areola is covered to prevent injury.
