Pediatric health guidance on infant sleep and allergy symptoms

Medical experts are highlighting common parental habits and environmental factors that impact pediatric health, specifically regarding sleep patterns and allergy management.

Regarding sleep, doctors advise that while soothing a baby is natural, parents should limit rocking or holding a child to sleep after three months to help them learn self-soothing. Experts from Boston Children's Hospital suggest placing infants in a crib while they are still awake to foster independence. Additionally, the American Academy of Pediatrics warns against bed-sharing with infants under one year old due to increased risks of suffocation and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

In terms of respiratory health, specialists note that distinguishing between ragweed allergies and common colds is vital. While both cause nasal congestion and sneezing, allergies typically lack the fever, malaise, and loss of appetite associated with infections. Parents should monitor for nighttime coughing or wheezing, which may indicate allergic asthma. Experts from the Institute for Mother and Child Dr. Vukan Čupić emphasize that children should remain home from school or daycare when suffering from infections to prevent further spread.
