Pediatricians offer health advice for back-to-school season

As the new school year approaches, pediatricians are offering guidance to help parents manage the transition from summer holidays to a structured routine. The Panhellenic Federation of Independent Pediatricians emphasizes that preparation should extend beyond purchasing school supplies to include establishing healthy daily habits.

Key recommendations include gradually adjusting sleep schedules to restore consistent routines, limiting screen time in favor of physical activity and social interaction, and ensuring nutritional stability through regular, healthy meals. Physical activity is highlighted as a crucial factor in addressing childhood obesity.

Additionally, health experts advise parents to be vigilant regarding head lice, a common issue in schools and nurseries. To prevent spread, parents are encouraged to conduct weekly scalp inspections—focusing on areas behind the ears and at the neck—and to teach children to avoid head-to-head contact and the sharing of personal items like hats, combs, and hair accessories.
