Pedro Acosta criticizes MotoGP tire pressure rules at Mandalika
During the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix at the Mandalika International Circuit, rider Pedro Acosta heavily criticized the championship's minimum tire pressure regulations. Acosta described the rules as the 'silliest' in the history of the championship, stating that they made riders look like 'donkeys' on the track.
During the main race, Acosta and Marc Márquez were involved in a repetitive cycle of overtaking and yielding positions. This was a tactical maneuver to manage front tire pressure; riding in the slipstream helped maintain pressure, while riding in clean air caused it to drop below the mandatory minimum. This behavior was intended to avoid a potential 16-second time penalty.
Acosta argued that the current regulations are unrealistic because they require engineers and mechanics to predict dynamic racing conditions before the start, which is impossible given how track conditions change based on the position of other riders. He suggested that minimum pressure requirements should only apply to the start of the race.
