Pedro Alliana and Horacio Cartes meet to resolve Honor Colorado tensions

Pedro Alliana and Horacio Cartes met to address recent tensions within the Honor Colorado faction of the Asociación Nacional Republicana (ANR). The meeting follows public disagreements regarding the selection of a vice-presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

The friction originated when Cartes publicly suggested Juan Carlos Baruja, the current Minister of Urbanism, Housing, and Habitat, as Alliana’s running mate. Alliana had maintained that the decision regarding his future ticket should remain his prerogative and be finalized only after the upcoming municipal elections on October 4.

Following their latest encounter, Alliana described the meeting as “fraternal,” stating that both leaders prioritized their commitment to the Colorado Party and the needs of the population—specifically in health, housing, and education—over their political differences. While the meeting signals a move toward unity ahead of the municipal elections, it did not reveal whether a concrete agreement was reached regarding the 2028 presidential formula.
