Pedro Alliana signals internal rift within Paraguay’s Colorado Party

Paraguayan Vice President Pedro Alliana has expressed significant internal tension within the Colorado Party, stating he feels “more outside than inside” the Honor Colorado movement led by Horacio Cartes.

In response to these political shifts and upcoming electoral contests, Alliana announced he will resume a survey to evaluate potential presidential candidates. The poll, which includes names such as César Sosa, Raúl Latorre, and Marco Riquelme, aims to determine who possesses the best conditions to lead a future presidential ticket. Alliana indicated that results could be available within approximately eight days.

Amidst this reconfiguration, Caaguazú Governor Marcelo Soto has publicly strengthened his ties with Alliana. This alignment comes as the political landscape shifts following the perceived rupture within Honor Colorado, with Soto seeking to consolidate his leadership as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
