Pedro Almodóvar's 'High Heels' Returns to Greek Summer Cinemas 35 Years After Premiere
Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s 1991 melodramatic comedy‑drama Tacones Lejanos (High Heels) is being shown in a digital restoration at Greece’s summer outdoor cinemas. The screenings begin on 30 July 2026 and mark the film’s 35th anniversary since its original release.
The story follows a retired performer who returns to Madrid after fifteen years abroad to discover that her 27‑year‑old daughter, abandoned in her teens, has married one of the mother’s former lovers. A tense reunion escalates into a murder‑investigation, while the film explores themes of guilt, desire, memory and forgiveness. The restored version features performances by Victoria Abril and Marisa Paredes, whose characters navigate the volatile mother‑daughter bond.
