Pedro Barateiro exhibition opens at Centro de Arte Quetzal

The exhibition ‘Truvadores — Parte I’ by Pedro Barateiro opens on September 5 at the Centro de Arte Quetzal in Vila de Frades, Vidigueira. The event, which marks the tenth anniversary of the art center, will feature a performance by Lula Pena and is scheduled to run until March 21, 2027.

Curated by Aveline de Bruin, the project explores themes of travel, encounter, and cultural transmission. The exhibition includes large-scale drawings related to the surrounding landscape and the beginning of a new animated film.

The narrative is centered on the historical figure Vicente Lusitano, a composer and traveler born in Olivença around 1520, who is recognized as the first Black composer to have music published in Europe. The exhibition also utilizes the ‘Mão Guidoniana’, a historical musical teaching system, to connect different generations and people.
