Pedro Casares pledges PSOE support for Cantabrian farmers
Pedro Casares, the Secretary General of the PSOE in Cantabria, has reaffirmed the socialist party's commitment to supporting the agricultural and livestock sectors through "real and concrete policies." Speaking at the Ruente Livestock Fair, Casares characterized the sector as "strategic" and criticized the People's Party (PP) for what he termed "empty words" and "rhetoric."
Casares highlighted several financial measures intended to mitigate rising costs for fertilizers and fuel, as well as bureaucratic burdens. He noted that in 2025, 59 million euros from the Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) have been transferred to Cantabrian farmers, supplemented by 1.6 million euros in European funds for technological advancement.
Additionally, he mentioned a recent announcement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food regarding an advance of nearly 16 million euros in PAC aid for the region. He also referenced a recent Council of Ministers approval of 50 million euros to assist the primary sector with increasing production costs.
