Pedro Castillo demands right to speak in Supreme Court

Former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo has used social media to demand that the Supreme Court grant him the right to speak during upcoming legal proceedings. Castillo, who is currently serving an 11-year, 5-month prison sentence for conspiracy to commit rebellion, is seeking direct intervention during an audience scheduled for October 1.

Castillo criticized the suspension of his appeal process, which he claims has been stalled since January 2026 due to a judicial inhibition within the Supreme Court chamber. To support his request, he cited Opinion No. 78/2025 from the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which characterized his imprisonment as arbitrary. He maintains that he intends to exercise his right to a defense without causing procedural delays.
