Pedro Duque arrested in Guatemala CHN fraud case

Guatemalan authorities have arrested Pedro Duque Soto in San José Pinula following a court order to revoke his previous substitute measures. Duque is a primary suspect in a fraud investigation involving the Crédito Hipotecario Nacional (CHN), where investigators from the Ministerio Público allege an anomalous extraction of approximately Q20 to Q21 million.

The Third Criminal Appeals Court revoked the substitute measures originally granted in June, citing concerns that Duque might flee or interfere with the ongoing investigation. Following his arrest by the Policía Nacional Civil, Duque was transferred to a detention center in zone 18. He had previously been in preventive custody before being released under judicial supervision earlier this year.
