Pedro Hernández Chávez elected president of Peru's Constitutional Court

The Plenary of Peru's Constitutional Court (TC) has elected magistrate Pedro Hernández Chávez as its new president by majority vote. His term is set to run until May 2027, marking the end of the current five-year mandate of the collegiate body.

During the same session held at the San Isidro headquarters, Luz Pacheco Zerga was appointed vice president, and Francisco Morales Saravia was named director general of the Center for Constitutional Studies (CEC). The new leadership is scheduled to be sworn in on Friday, September 4, at 10:00 a.m.

Hernández Chávez succeeds Helder Domínguez Haro, who had been serving as president following the resignation of Luz Pacheco Zerga from the presidency in May. The election process followed the Organic Law of the Constitutional Court, involving all seven members of the Plenary in a reserved vote.
