Pope Leo XIV appoints Pedro Luis Fuentes Valencia as Bolivia's Military Ordinary

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Bishop Pedro Luis Fuentes Valencia as the Military Ordinary for Bolivia. This appointment concludes a four-year period during which the Passionist prelate served as the apostolic administrator for the jurisdiction while maintaining his role as an auxiliary bishop of La Paz.

Fuentes Valencia, who will also serve as the titular bishop of Temuniana, has been a vocal proponent of synodality within the Church. He has previously expressed views regarding the Church’s identity as a process of listening and walking together. His past comments have included describing the possibility of Holy Communion for certain groups as an ‘open question’ and advocating for the courage to ‘make a different Church.’
