Pedro Moura named new national director of Portugal's PSP

Superintendent Pedro Moura is set to become the new national director of the Public Security Police (PSP), succeeding Luís Carrilho. This transition marks the third change in the leadership of the police force within a three-year period.

Moura, 59, has served as the general coordinator of the Border and Foreigners Unit since June 2024. His extensive career includes roles such as director of the Weapons and Explosives Department, chief of staff to the national director, and commander of the Abrantes station during the 1990s. He holds a degree in Police Sciences and a postgraduate degree in Civil Crisis Management.

The outgoing director, Luís Carrilho, who has held the position since May 2024, is expected to transition to an international liaison role in Paris. Carrilho has previously been involved in United Nations missions and was a candidate for leadership positions at Europol.
