Havana International Book Fair hosts literary awards and presentations
The 34th Havana International Book Fair is hosting various literary presentations and award ceremonies. Ediciones ICAIC presented “Escuchando en la oscuridad,” a poetry anthology by Virgilio López Lemus that explores the relationship between cinema and verse.
In the field of editorial excellence, historian Pedro Pablo Rodríguez was awarded the 2025 National Editing Prize for his leadership in the Critical Edition of the Complete Works of José Martí. Additionally, the Nicolás Guillén and Alejo Carpentier prizes were awarded, with Geovannys Manso winning for Novel and Alberto Marrero Fernández winning for Short Story.
Other notable presentations include “Fidel y los Maestros Voluntarios,” a book documenting the 1960 literacy campaign, and two works from the Ministry of the Interior’s Editorial San Luis, which focus on civic responsibility and the life of a combatant. The event continues to showcase diverse Cuban literary and historical perspectives despite local resource challenges.
