Pedro Passos Coelho warns no one in Portugal is indifferent to recent controversies

Former Portuguese prime minister Pedro Passos Coelho told journalists that “there is no one who is unconcerned” with the controversies that have emerged in recent weeks and said they should not be dismissed as “foam of the days”. He made the remarks on the sidelines of the launch of the study “Unlocking Portugal’s Growth”, a report prepared by Nobel‑laureate economist James A. Robinson and commissioned by the Confederation of Portuguese Business (CIP) together with the Instituto Amaro da Costa in Lisbon.

Passos Coelho added that the issues demand reflection and action, and he does not intend to comment further on them at this stage. His comments followed a press conference the previous day by Interior Minister Luís Neves, who addressed controversies linked to his former leadership of the Polícia Judiciária and to construction work on his Alentejo property.
