Pedro Proença says Portuguese football ready for peaceful season after Supertaça

After the Supertaça match between Futebol Clube do Porto and Torriense, Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), addressed the recent controversies that have surrounded Portuguese football. He stressed that his personal opinions as a private citizen must not be confused with his official role, stating, “Iniciámos a nova temporada com todas as condições, numa grande festa… numa época preparada – teremos 10 meses muito intensos – em que os grandes interesses desportivos estarão à frente de tudo.”

Proença also highlighted that the Arbitration Council (Conselho de Arbitragem) operates autonomously and that the ongoing investigations, including the inquiry into Luciano Gonçalves, are being handled independently. He affirmed that the federation will ensure conditions for referees and a “tranquila” season, while acknowledging the broader challenges ahead as Portugal prepares for a potential World Cup hosting bid.
