Pedro Rousseff requests passport seizure for Nikolas Ferreira

Federal Deputy-elect Pedro Rousseff (PT-MG) has petitioned Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet to request the seizure of Nikolas Ferreira’s (PL) passport. The request asks the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR) to seek a judicial order prohibiting Ferreira from leaving the country without authorization, citing potential risks of flight.

Rousseff’s initiative follows reports regarding Flávio Bolsonaro leaving Brazil. The petition argues that the PGR should investigate whether Ferreira is making preparations to evade legal proceedings. The request is linked to a July 2024 complaint filed by the PGR against Ferreira for alleged insults directed at President Lula during a speech in New York in November 2023.

The proposal suggests that judicial intervention should be based on concrete signs of flight risk, such as attempts to hide one's whereabouts or avoid summons, rather than waiting for an evasion to occur.
