Pedro Saldanha approved by commission for Unesco delegation

Brazil's Foreign Relations Commission (CRE) has approved the nomination of diplomat Pedro Marcos de Castro Saldanha to serve as the country's permanent delegate to Unesco. The decision was reached with 10 votes in favor and none against. The nomination now moves to the Senate Plenary for final approval.

Saldanha, a career diplomat since 1997 with previous experience in The Hague, Washington, and Paris, currently serves as the chief of staff for the Secretariat-General of Foreign Relations. He succeeds diplomat Paula Alves de Souza in the role.

Senator Nelsinho Trad, the rapporteur for the nomination, emphasized the importance of Brazil's relationship with Unesco, noting that the country currently hosts 25 World Heritage sites. Saldanha has expressed intentions to continue seeking World Heritage status for additional Brazilian locations to promote tourism and scientific cooperation.
