Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has accused Madrid regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso of attempting to use public funds to purchase a luxury penthouse for personal use. Sánchez characterized the situation as an attempt to acquire a residence with taxpayer money, noting that the transaction has been uncovered. He further criticized the People's Party (PP) for a lack of transparency and accountability, specifically questioning PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo regarding what information the party held about the operation as early as April.

The controversy centers on a 6.3 million euro purchase of a 485-square-meter property in Chamberí by the public company Planifica Madrid. While the Madrid regional government maintains the property was intended to serve as provisional offices during renovations at the Puerta del Sol building, the political opposition has challenged this narrative.

The Más Madrid parliamentary group has filed a formal complaint with the Court of Auditors to investigate the transaction. The group seeks to determine if the operation resulted in a loss of public funds, estimating a potential deficit of approximately 364,500 euros. The property has since been put up for sale following the cancellation of the initial acquisition plan.
