Pedro Sánchez criticized for summer playlist amid Ceuta migration crisis

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez posted a relaxed video on Instagram and TikTok sharing his personal summer playlist, a 1‑hour‑45‑minute mix of 31 tracks ranging from classic Rolling Stones songs to recent releases by Charli XCX and Spanish artists. The playlist, linked on Spotify, quickly amassed more than 6,600 saves.

The post sparked immediate backlash because it was released while Spain faced one of its worst migration surges, with thousands of migrants arriving in the autonomous city of Ceuta, alongside extreme heat and widespread forest fires. Critics accused Sánchez of “laughing at the population” and of poor timing, with comments such as “Eles invadem seu país enquanto você escuta Quevedo.” The controversy highlights public sensitivity to political leaders’ use of social media during national emergencies.
