Pedro Sánchez discusses mobile security advice on television

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez shared a cybersecurity tip during an appearance on the program ‘La Revuelta’, stating that turning off a mobile phone for five minutes a day can help protect it from viruses. Sánchez noted that this advice was provided by Moncloa's systems specialists following previous incidents involving Pegasus spyware targeting his and other government officials' devices.

While the practice of restarting a device can stop certain malicious programs running in the device's memory, security experts suggest more robust measures for the average user. These include activating two-step authentication, utilizing passkeys, and ensuring that both the operating system and applications are consistently updated to patch vulnerabilities.
